# Connect ChatGPT to your lab results

> Doctano turns the lab reports you already have into one private, source-linked health timeline, with an AI that answers from your own results.

One connection replaces uploading the same PDF into a chat every time. Here is what you are granting, and how to take it back.

This is the Markdown version of https://doctano.com/guides/connect-chatgpt-to-doctano. The HTML page is the canonical version.

Doctano connects to ChatGPT as an OAuth-authorised connector. You add it, sign in with Google, and approve read access, or read and upload access. Read access lets the assistant list your profiles and read biomarkers, history, and reports. Upload access lets it add a report. Either grant can be revoked from Connected Apps.

The connector does not copy your reports into the chat. It gives the assistant a scoped way to ask Doctano for the results it needs, and it stops working the moment you revoke it.

## Before you start

- A Doctano account, created with Google Sign-In, which is the only sign-in method currently enabled.
- At least one profile with a report in it, so there is something to ask about.
- A ChatGPT client that supports connectors. Which connectors a plan offers is decided by OpenAI, not by Doctano, so check your own account.

## How to connect

1. **Open the connector settings in ChatGPT** and add Doctano. The exact menu label depends on your client and plan.
2. **If your client asks for the server address,** Doctano's MCP endpoint is `https://app.doctano.com/api/mcp`. It uses OAuth, and clients that support dynamic client registration can register themselves.
3. **Sign in with Google** in the Doctano window that opens.
4. **Approve the access you want.** Choose read-only for questions about results. Choose read and upload if you want the assistant to add a report without leaving the chat.
5. **Ask a question that proves it works,** such as "list my Doctano profiles" or "what were my latest results?".

## What the two access levels allow

| Action | Read-only (health.read) | Read and upload (health.write) |
| --- | --- | --- |
| List your profile names | Yes | Yes |
| Read biomarkers, reference ranges, and history | Yes | Yes |
| Read a report and its extracted values | Yes | Yes |
| List results outside their reference range | Yes | Yes |
| Return links back to a biomarker or report | Yes | Yes |
| Upload a lab report PDF or photo | No | Yes |
| Check whether a report finished processing | Yes | Yes |
| Edit or delete a report | No | No |
| Manage or delete a profile | No | No |
| Change account settings | No | No |

## What the assistant can actually ask for

Behind the connection is a set of tools. In plain language, the assistant can ask Doctano to list profile names, read a health summary, fetch the latest value for each marker, search for one marker, read that marker's history, list the results outside their ranges, search reports, read one report, and check the processing status of an uploaded report.

When a reply includes a link to a biomarker or a report, the link carries the profile it belongs to. Opening it switches Doctano to that profile before showing the page. If the signed-in account cannot access that profile, Doctano says so rather than showing another person's results.

## Which person the assistant uses

If a request does not identify one profile clearly, the assistant may ask which person you mean. That is deliberate: profiles keep separate people's timelines apart, and a shared account or a caregiver setup can hold several. Name the person in the question when you have more than one profile.

## Uploading through the connector

With upload access, the assistant compares the patient name printed on the report, and the file name when it clearly identifies the person, with your profile names. If exactly one profile matches, it uploads there. If none match, or more than one could, it asks you first.

Uploaded reports go through the same processing as a report uploaded in the app, and usually take one to two minutes. The report then appears on the Reports page, where you can review, open, or delete it. Uploading is only allowed for people whose information you have the right and any required consent to add.

## How to disconnect

1. Open **Account** in Doctano.
2. Open **Connected Apps**.
3. Revoke the ChatGPT connection.

Revoking ends the assistant's access and does not delete your account, your profiles, or your reports. You can also remove the connector on the ChatGPT side; doing both leaves no doubt about which side is still holding the grant.

## What to check before you trust an answer

- Verify any value you plan to act on against the original report. Extraction and model output can both be wrong.
- Ask where a number came from, and open the linked report.
- Do not treat a summary as a diagnosis. The assistant is not a clinician, and neither is DoctanoAI.
- For an emergency, contact a doctor or local emergency services. Do not wait for a chat reply.

## Connecting ChatGPT

**Does connecting ChatGPT give it my whole Doctano account?**

No. The connection is an OAuth grant with one of two scopes: health.read, which allows listing profiles and reading biomarkers and reports, or health.write, which adds report uploading. It cannot manage profiles, change account settings, or delete anything.

**Can ChatGPT edit or delete my lab reports?**

No. Editing and deleting are not exposed to the connector. Reports can be deleted only in the Doctano app, from the report options menu.

**I connected ChatGPT earlier. Why can it not upload a report?**

A connection authorised before upload access existed stays read-only. Remove and re-add the connector, or reconnect it, and approve upload access to upgrade the grant.

**How do I disconnect ChatGPT from Doctano?**

Open Account, then Connected Apps, and revoke the access. Revoking ends the connection without deleting your Doctano account or your reports.

**Does the connector cost anything?**

Doctano is free, and the connector is part of the free product. Whether a ChatGPT plan offers connectors is decided by OpenAI, so check your own client for what is available to you.

## Limits

**Not medical care.** The connector gives an assistant access to your organized results. It does not diagnose or treat, and its answers can be wrong. Check important values against the original report and speak to a qualified professional.
